Artists that we relate our band as well as our music video is a band called "You me at Six." they both have similar image and same genre of music so we looked at their music videos thoroughly to see how they relate their music to their videos and what relationship they have.
Another band that we will look at is Kings Of Leon as they are also in the alternative rock genre.

Group Meeting

In this group meeting we decided on which song we were going to choose and what idea we thought we could ellaborate more on. We decided on "Somewhere between the tide and I" because the video is more hyper-real and there is a lot more we can do with our ideas on developing and producing then "secrets". Also, secrets is nearly a 5 minute song which means we would need a lot of footage to create a great looking music video without repeating footage.

we looked closely at our idea and brainstormed what we could do with it forming new ideas, to bring a new diminution to the idea.
we also looked at intertextual references to get more ideas, or to elaborate on existing ideas.
We looked more in to the fact that water is really important in the song and its title meaning that it needs to be key in the video.

okay so i wrote out the lyrics for our band members to see properly:

Initial Idea-Secrets

For this idea we mainly focused more on how the lyrics would affect the video such as The main idea for this is that there will be a woman who gets up looks in the mirror and using quick cuts to who she could have been and back to who she is now.
we like the idea of "enigma" and showing parts of her bodys reflection, and the idea of secrets that her mouth would be edited so that it is shut/scribbled over and that everything in her past is a hidden secret , her past is terrible and something she will keep to herself.
however this will be inserts through the shots as we will like to mainly focus on the performance on the band as the band is of rock genre and we want to keep the perfomance throughout as so does many rock videos.
We both put our ideas together to come up with this main idea for the  song 'Secrets'.
However we have seen that another song (somewhere between the tide&i) has more potential than the others.
We will look at all our songs potential and then make the logical choice.

Initial Idea-Somewhere Between the Tide & I

The title of this song "Somewhere Between the Tide& I" inspired us the most with the setting as it will be set on a beach where we will film the tide coming in and coming out representing the narrative we have structured:


The narrative is based around a girl and boy at a beach and the girl falls asleep and goes into a dream where she is at the bands gig that her and the boy were at earlier. She will be in the middle of the crowd looking lost at the performance looking for the boy who has purposely left her on her own. it will flash quickly to her being in the room empty then filled with a crowd and the band performing a few times.
for the performance, we want it set on the beach as it links with our idea of water and the tide.
The lyrics "He calls your name, the one you dream of,
                  he calls your name, your falling deeper"
gave us this idea of her falling deeper in this dream she is in where the boy she is inlove with turns into a chaotic nightmare where the boy shows his true colours and when he becomes aggressive towards it will cut to photos of the tide being aggressive and obviously the band performing at different shots.
We noticed that at the beginning of the song the music reminds us of water and the beach meaning that water is going to be key in this video, for instance maybe the sight of water takes the girl back to sometime or reminds her of something, the key moment when the video changes into a hyper-real state?


To introduce the band at the end we really liked the idea of having the bands name written in the sand as it promotes the band. It also reminded us of a specific TV opening sequence from "90210". if you watch the short clip below, you will see in what we are going to try to attempt. this also links into the title of "somewhere between the tide and i" where the tide is going out and reveals the bands name. we thought this could be an effective ending to the music video.

We did originally have two main ideas for this song which you can read below :

1. There will be a girl in the studio lying on chairs which will be done by the green screen so the girl looks like she is floating which is a common dream.  
As the song begins to build there will be quick cuts to the band before a performance and as the drummer and more guitars come in the shoot will go quickly to the band performing.


2. A girl will be on the train home and fall asleep bringing her back to the gig, however the dream will become deeper (inception) putting a dream in a dream as she wakes up in the train however there is the boy she loves however from this she sees his true colours.


Both of these ideas will rewind all the way back to the start and the closing shot will once again be the band setting up to perform like the dream never happened.

Group Meeting

In this meeting we discussed the main ideas we had for our video, figured out the lyrics and emailed the band to confirm dates and lyrics.
we narrowed our ideas to two songs, Secrets and Somewhere Between the Tide&I both by Vienna as our other bands we found we did not think were as good as this band.We also decided that we would go to one of their gigs (16th october) to get some live footage which can incorperate within our music video or at least use it as a taster of how we would go about shooting a music video.
We both come up with a lot of different ideas for both songs and decided to type them up as initials to see which one we thought would work best as a music video.
