Storyboard

roughly 50 shots drawn on each a3 paper:

chloe: Because i didn't have multiple pieces of paper of a3 at home, i had to make sure that i was able to fit each storyboard image i had drawn onto the paper given. being that there was an average of 100 that i had drawn, i made sure there was at least 50 on each page. this was a task that took a long period of time to generate but it was a task that ensured us of having a general idea of how our music video was going to look.

Case study

Question 1: Which institutions are behind this band/artist and in
what ways is this relevant?

Fueled by Ramen are a record company that focuses mainly around Rock music- Indie rock,
pop punk, alternative rock, punk rock, ska punk, alternative hip hop and emo. This is relevant to the band Paramore because they fall within this category of music and Fueled by Ramen are very well known in the music industry to record and promote "Rock" bands so they will have a better understanding then any other companies on how to promote this band and how to present them and attract them to their target audience.

Question 2: What functions does the website serve for the band/artist?

Paramore's website reflects the style of the band which grabs their targets audience attention.
the merchandise is a type of advertisement for the band as fans wear it promoting who they are

This promotes the band as welcoming and lets fans keep in touch with the band

entices paramores target audience to keep in touch

From this one screen shot you can see what the website includes and the functions it has that serves the band a better promotion

- They have their latest blog posts on the website from the artists within the band posting themselves letting fans know what they are up to and also competitions coming up and new merchandise.

-There is also a function where they have videos of the band in their daily life which allows the audience get to know what they are really like behind the music.

-They also have a twitter section which a social network site also focusing mainly on the audience                                             allowing them to be in contact with the artists.

-There is also a section for their latest shows keeping the fans up to date with when the band are next performing.

Question 3: Describe the bands/artists identity and explain how the website is used to construct this

Paramore are an alternative rock band that have released three albums. their website is constructed in the style of their third album to promote the album itself.

their third album "brand new eyes"

the style of the website is very similar to their album and has their logo of the butterfly on there.
As the band have grown throughout the years, they still have their edgy rock style about them, however their music has become a lot more alternative which reflects the bands style within the website.

Question 4: Who is the target audience for the band artist and how do you know?

The target audience for Paramore are both genders between the ages of 15-30. This is because of the style of the website which is quite sophisticated like their third album and more adult like. Also, the band was signed at  young age so is aimed at the younger rock generation however can still be enjoyable to the older generation. They preferably appeal more to females as the leading singer Hayley williams is seen as a strong female however it appeals to boys as they see her more as a sex icon.

This showed us that in the rock industry men see Hayley williams
 as the sexiest female
which told us they saw her as a sex icon.

Question 5: How is the website designed to appeal to the target audience?

The website is in the style of the bands third album which from this image is quite sophisticated yet still in a rock image because of the font for the bands name and the logo of the ripped butterfly. the sophisticated look shows how the band have grown up from when they were younger in this industry. It definitely appeals to the target audience because it still has its edgy rock look to it but contradicts itself in its simplicity in which reflects their target audience of being edgy but still grabbing the middle age generations attention of being quite simple.

Question 6: Identify all the different strategies used to market the artist/band on the website

Question 7: How many opportunities does the website offer the audience to buy into artist? (i.e. to spend their money)

Question 8: Apart from the band/artist, what or who else is being sold on the website?

merchandise is sold on the bands website
This image presents their new single which promotes their new song and
also the film they made if for "transformers" which is also a promoting strategy
and their target audience are more likely to buy the film because of their single being in the film.
The video on the website if watched hayley is interviewing a band which is not
selling the band but promoting them to Paramore's target audience.
audience can download (buy) the bands new album.
Promotes MTV's EMA which grabs audience attention as it relates to the band.

Marketing Strategy

Both new methods and Traditional methods of marketing play a big part in the campaign  for VIENNA, as well as using the internet and social networking sites mainly for merchandising and performance dates, we would use the magazines and the radio to promote the actual single, we decided this instead of TV as the band is just starting out, they do not have a huge following meaning they do not have the budget to be able to show it on TV however the video will be on their website, giving them a wider audience each time someone visits the website, the website will be personalised to the band giving them an almost sort of brand awarness.
By marrying the two forms of marketing, we are able to appeal to people who are not into the internet and the people who use it religiously.
To promote the band and their single we chose sites, magazines and radio stations to co-inside with the bands image and the target audiance of 15-30, We decided on them by also looking at the bands genre and identity to match them up with that.
We chose the release date of the 2nd of december as it is near christmas so we can the people who need presents.

Marketing Methods

There are many methods to sell a band and their image:
the most expensive are the ads and tours as they will be in well known venues and hopefully in a well read magazine:
Music Video- easily £100,000
TV Adverts-£120,000 when shown along a popular TV program
Print Advertising-Full Page Rate: £6,920
Tours-the price depends soulie on wether it is world wide or country wide, small bars or packed out venues.

However the most expensive are not always the most desirable:
The album and the cover -do not always have to 'bust the bank' as you can easily mock it up on your computer.
Facebook,Twitter and Myspace are free and play a huge part in the promotion of a band as they can put their music on my space, their band page on face book and let the fans know whats going keeping them up to date.
website and mechanising- the website can be done by the band themselves, and merchandising can be done on a budget but these two are also desirable as they give fans another place to follow the band and the mechanising give the band free advertising as the people who buy them will wear t-shirts for instance at a friends, and in turn telling them about the band.
The most lucrative are methods that will give the band and the record label the most money:
Word of Mouth is one of the main ones as it is free and all the money you get from it weather it be one T-Shirt or 100 more people to a concert it will all be profit at the end of the day. word of mouth is just one person telling someone else about the band and then them going on to tell two of their friends and so on.
the album will get quite a bit of money wether it is from cash sales or from down loads.
